Reader’s Question:
Do you need to have a drivers license to purchase, register and insure a vehicle in CA? I know many unlicensed motorists in Alhambra California, and I was just wondering how they obtain and register their vehicles.
Jason
Alhambra, CA
What I know is that in California a driver’s license is not required to be presented to purchase or register a vehicle. But if you do not have a driver’s license it is not easy to obtain car insurance which can be an issue in many states. In California, auto insurance is needed for a vehicle that is registered in the state.
It is illegal to operate without a license and insurance in California so even an unlicensed drivers were able to purchase and register a vehicle in Alhambra if they are without a valid driver’s license and car insurance for the car then they are driving illegally.
To get more information on California or other state laws regarding the selling or buying of a car and registration requirements you may contact the CA DMV.
